Setelah sehari sebelumnya para nominasi Razzie Awards diumumkan, kini giliran daftar nominasi ajang paling bergengsi bagi insan perfilman, Academy Awards 2017 dirilis oleh pihak bersangkutan. Presiden Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs mengumumkan daftar nominasi Oscar ini bersama dengan Demian Bichir, Dustin Lance Black, Glenn Close, Guillermo del Toro, Marcia Gay Harden, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Jason Reitman, Gabourey Sidibe dan Ken Watanabe.
Academy Awards ke-89 ini didominasi oleh film La La Land yang mendapat 14 nominasi. Hal ini menyamai rekor jumlah nominasi yang didapatkan oleh Titanic (1997) dan All About Eve (1950). Arrival dan Moonlight menyusul dengan 8 nominasi, sedangkan Hacksaw Ridge, Lion, dan Manchester by the Sea mendapat enam nominasi. Kali ini acara bergengsi ini akan dipandu oleh Jimmy Kimmel dan akan dilangsungkan pada tanggal 26 Febuari 2017 dengan mengambil tempat di Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, Hollywood.
