Meskipun harus menunda pelaksanaan ajang penghargaan Oscar 2021 dari bulan Februari ke bulan April ini karena pandemi, akhirnya acara penghargaan insan perfilman Hollywood tersebut berhasil digelar.
Acara Academy Awards ke-93 ini berlangsung dengan cukup “meriah” dengan produser Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher dan Jesse Collins, yang telah merencanakan upacara Oscar tidak seperti biasanya.
Dan sesuai dengan prediksi banyak pihak, Chloe Zhao berhasil memenangkan kategori Sutradara Terbaik Oscar 2021 untuk arahannya di film Nomadland yang juga memenangkan Best Pictures. Zhao menjadi sutradara wanita kedua yang memenangkan Oscar untuk kategori tersebut setelah Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). Sementara itu, Daniel Kaluuya membawa pulang Oscar pertamanya untuk kategori Best Supporting Actor dalam film Judas and the Black Messiah. Dan yang cukup mengejutkan adalah aktris Korea Selatan, Yuh-jung Youn yang menyabet gelar Best Supporting Actress atas penampilannya di Minari.
Sedangkan untuk Best Actor diraih oleh Anthony Hopkins di film The Father dan Frances McDormand melengkapi kejayaan Nomadland dengan meraih penghargaan Best Actress.
