HBO telah menemukan sutradara untuk episode pilot dari prekuel Game of Thrones yang akan datang dan melengkapi jajaran pemerannya.
S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders, Jessica Jones) akan mengarahkan episode perdana ini. Sedangkan para bintang baru yang akan menemani Naomi Watts dan Josh Whitehouse adalah Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: Episode IX), Denise Gough (Angels in America, Guerrilla), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd, Mortal Instruments), Sheila Atim (Harlots), Ivanno Jeremiah (Black Mirror, Humans), Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia), Alex Sharp (To the Bone) dan Toby Regbo (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald).
Prekuel ini akan mengambil setting beribu-ribu tahun sebelum kisah Game of Thrones dimulai dan akan meliputi kisah transisi Westeros dari Golden Age of heroes ke periode masa tergelap di dunia itu.

Belum ada pengumuman resmi tentang kapan prekuel Game of Thrones akan memulai debutnya di HBO, tetapi suatu saat di tahun 2020 tampaknya seperti waktu yang tepat. Sementara itu, enam episode terakhir Game of Thrones akan ditayangkan pada April 2019.
