Lahir dengan nama Stanley Martin Lieber pada tahun 1922, ia dikenal sebagai pencipta sebagian besar karakter utama pada masa awal Marvel. Karirnya di perusahaan penerbit Martin Goodman dimulai pada tahun 1939 ketika ia menjadi asisten di perusahaan yang kemudian dikenal sebagai Timely Comics. Dia juga menghidupkan kembali pahlawan lama dari tahun 1940, termasuk Sub-Mariner dan karya Joe Simon & Jack Kirby, Captain America. Kelompok The Avengers kemudian dihadirkan pada tahun 1963. Sementara karakter ikonik lainnya mengikuti; The Inhumans, Silver Surfer, Black Panther dan The Falcon.
